Massage Therapy in Auckland
A path to healing and holistic wellbeing
Introducing a professional massage therapy experience in Belmont, Auckland.
Massage therapy has great power to relax the body, relieve stress and tension, and heal the mind and soul. This in itself supports the alleviation of pain and other stress-related conditions.
I draw on my years of experience as a massage therapist and communicate with the client to find the optimal approach. Years of client feedback and observation of the health benefits of massage help me choose from several therapeutic and healing techniques.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve seen amazing results from using a combination of massage therapy, acupressure and results focused holistic approach. Having always worked in health orientated clinics I was driven to get results. Most clients now come to see me for stress-related conditions, recovery from trauma or a way out of pain or fatigue.
Acupressure can be simply described as a combination of acupuncture and massage technique. Clients remain fully clothed and no acupuncture needles are used. According to the clients needs, gentle to firm touch is applied to pressure points around the body.
Why Acupressure and Massage Therapy?
During my two decades of experience in treating clients with acupressure and therapeutic massage techniques, my clients have commonly reported the following benefits;
- Better sleep.
- Reduced levels of stress, tension, anxiety and depression.
- Reduction of pain through muscle relaxation and structural realignment, i.e. back, neck, shoulder, hip, foot, toe, knee.
- Reduction of arthritis pain. Reduction of trigeminal neuralgia pain.
- Improved digestion, reduced stomach tension/pain, detoxification of the digestive system.
- Help with recovery from physical trauma, i.e. injury, RSI/OOS, post surgery recovery, car accidents, stroke.
- Help with recovery from emotional trauma, i.e. stressful life events.
- Reduced symptoms in those experiencing adrenal fatigue, chronic fatigue or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME)
- Help with a wide range of neurological and auto-immune disorders.
- Help with maintaining a healthy immune system.
My three key massage therapy techniques
I draw on three key practices to create a unique treatment plan for every client. Most often it is acupressure or acupressure combined with massage techniques.
Acupressure Massage
Acupressure massage is a traditional Chinese method (also known as pressure-point massage). This massage technique calms the mind and body, alleviates stress and muscular tension and improves circulation by applying pressure to specific points. If left untreated, built-up tension can impact posture, digestion and circulation, and contribute to anxiety and pain.

Abdominal Massage
During abdominal massage I gently lay my hands on the abdomen, feeling for muscular tension in and around the abdomen. I’m also feeling the blood flow and checking circulation. I gently massage through the abdomen working on the meridians relating to the organs. When I find tension, I use gentle but sustained acupressure or therapeutic massage techniques to relax those points and improve muscular movement and circulation. I have found abdominal massage particularly useful for treating fatigue, digestive ailments and lower back pain.

Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage focuses on relaxing and lengthening muscles that have become short and tight to relieve tension, clear stress and help them to regain their full range of motion. I incorporate techniques from deep tissue massage, myofascial release and acupressure. It is also very useful when dealing with muscles that are in spasm as it reminds them how to let go and relax. This can be especially helpful in massage for lower back pain.

Lower back injury
I was suffering from an acute back injury for 2 years when I came to see Andrew. My lower back was so locked, I couldn’t bend more than a couple of inches in either direction. At 35 years old, I walked like I was elderly. I tried acupuncture, massage, exercise and pain medication but, nothing seemed to give me any relief. A surgeon had recommended surgery which I was seriously considering.
Andrew started by addressing tension that I was holding in other parts of my body. As he was doing this we chatted about my back and my life juggling work and children. He was able to identify how my life stressors were affecting my back and body. After a one hour session, even though Andrew had hardly touched my back, I floated home, with instant relief from the pain!
I visited Andrew once a week for 5 weeks and feel like a new person.
Best of all, I no longer walk like I am 80 years old! I don’t know how he did it, or why it worked over the numerous other treatments I tried, but it did and I am hooked!

Hearing loss
I have had a hearing loss problem since December 2013, I have been to see many doctors and specialists to resolve the issue. The best that they could do was to put me on some medication when that failed, they kept increasing the dose, then when that failed tried a range of different medications. It was not until I started reading the side-effects of the meds, that I stopped taking the medications and started looking for a viable alternative.
This was when I started seeing Susie at Suna Pilates, I started to get some results, then she put me on to Andrew Newman and my hearing really began to improve.
To me this was the turning point, when using both Suna Pilates & Andrew’s Acupressure and Massage Therapy in conjunction with one another. Now I am experiencing full days of my normal hearing again and only occasional and reducing episodes of hearing loss. If only I had dropped the ego or the preconceived notion, that something like acupressure massage and pilates could solve my hearing issues earlier, then I would not have subjected myself to trailing drugs from my specialist until he could find his answer.
I highly recommend people to try Andrew, my only regret is not listening to Susie, and seeing him earlier. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Trigeminal Neuralgia
After many years of suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia, and being on medications to confuse the brain I was informed by a prominent neurologist that there was nothing further he could do to alleviate the severe pain.
I continued with the medication and pain until I was introduced to Andrew. He diagnosed what he saw as the source and started acupressure massage. After a few sessions, there was a gradual improvement. This continued after each session until now I am virtually pain free and have discontinued all medication.
I cannot adequately express the relief! I now have a regular lifestyle. I can shave, shampoo my hair and walk in winds without suffering.
I am eternally grateful to Andrew for not treating just the symptoms of the disease but significantly the cause. He is very sincere in what he does and interested in the results.
Knowing the destructive nature of Trigeminal Neuralgia I would not hesitate to recommend to sufferers to consult Andrew. I know it would be as beneficial for them as what it has been for me.

Stomach tension and nausea
Over the past few years I’ve had on going issues regarding eating and feeling nauseous after food. Several tests and scans failed to show any conclusive results, but acupressure with Andrew has been extremely beneficial for me. After my first session I was able to feel a release in my stomach tension, allowing me to regain my appetite. I felt not only less anxious towards eating, but also less bloated and heavy after meals. This has been really helpful, as I’ve been able to establish a healthy eating pattern again.

Post surgical pain
Following 2 years of gastric issues and having my gallbladder removed last November, I was still experiencing pain that greatly interfered with my quality of life. I had tried many mainstream and holistic approaches and to be honest felt that perhaps I was going to have to live with my pain.
That was until I decided to book an appointment with Andrew on recommendation from my Pilates instructors. On meeting Andrew I was instantly at ease and felt understood and cared for.
Following my appointment I felt lighter, I had less pain and most importantly I had gained insight into my pain and left feeling that I had some control over it instead of the hopelessness I had felt for 2 years.
I continue to see Andrew on a regular basis (for maintenance of my recovery ) I treasure my time with him as it is my time to focus body, mind and spirit on my healing.
I can not thank Andrew enough- I know I am literally in good hands

Constipation
I have been suffering from severe constipation issues, for a long period of time.I met Andrew at IE Produce and made an appointment for the same week. Andrew has made me aware that the problem was more than just constipation.
He takes a holistic approach to health and is interested in me, my lifestyle and my healing.I am so glad that I tried Acupressure, and my health has improved overall. I would recommend Andrew and Acupressure to anyone that cares about their health and wellbeing.

Abdominal Pain
After 4 cesareans and an abdominal hysterectomy, my stomach area was a bit of a mess. I had tried conventional and holistic approaches to try and improve the many problems I was suffering, like pain in my abdomen, bloating after eating and lack of sleep due to these issues and also weight problems. I saw Andrew after a recommendation from my pilates instructors and after the very first session felt a massive improvement, I kept going weekly for 5-6 weeks and had a few lows but also highs, I just could feel the benefits so kept pushing through the lows. I can now honestly say I am pain free, sleep much better and have hardly any bloating. I am continuing to go once a month just to stay on top of things and always feel so relaxed and good after my session with Andrew.
I would highly recommend giving it a go, I think you will be amazed.

Headaches
About 2 years ago I began getting headaches which progressively got worse over time. My GP dismissed them as migraines and gave me a strong medication to take every night, which didn’t feel right. I made diet and lifestyle changes, I saw a naturopath and an osteopath but my headaches still continued to get longer and more frequent. Exercising made my head pound, and it seemed to spread through my neck, shoulders and back. Every aspect of my life was affected, and finally, my employer had enough and suggested I see Andrew. Over the next few weeks, my headaches lessened, both in frequency and intensity. I feel like Andrew eliminated the build up in my neck, shoulders and back, and reset my body so now I can exercise and look after myself again.
Thank you

Ulcerative Colitis
For the past 10 years, I’ve been living with Colitis, a form of IBD, which affects my bowel, and have been taking all sorts of medications including steroids and immunosuppressants to help control the disease. Earlier this year I had a very bad flare up which required hospitalisation to get under control and have been told by doctors that surgery to remove my bowel is my only real long term option. After talking to a friend he put me through to Andrew. At first, I didn’t know what to expect but with Andrew’s help I have made a speedy recovery and was able to return back to full time employment within a couple of weeks. I have since been able to gradually reduce my medications with the goal of eventually stopping them. Andrew has also given me great advice on foods and lifestyle changes that have also supported me in my recovery and my general health. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend anyone with IBD to go see Andrew after all the help he has given me.

Mark
Lower back pain
Following a nasty fall resulting in a head injury and trauma to my lower spine, it was painful to sit, sleep and walk (particularly up hills). I was recommended by a number of friends and acquaintances to see Andrew who positively raved about how they felt after receiving a treatment with him.
So it was a painful walk to my appointment but I can honestly say that following my treatment session with Andrew I floated into work and have been pain free since!
Andrew’s whole body approach to calm the nerves and muscles really worked to assist my lower back to recover quickly.
Thank you so much
Susan
Trigeminal Nerve Pain (facial pain)
After some crappy dental work I ended up with severe trigeminal nerve pain in my face (still the worst pain of my life). I tried everything and everyone to get rid of it but without success. Andrew (whom I have known since he was born) fixed it in one session, he is amazing and I cannot more highly recommend him for everyone.
