Massage and Holistic Health
Treating the whole you
Massage therapy can play a powerful part in any holistic health plan. A holistic health approach considers the whole person. One illness, be it lower back pain, depression, or IBS, can have a number of causes that can come together like a “perfect storm” and create those same symptoms. Stress and tension are common factors behind many chronic illnesses. Massage, especially acupressure can help unblock deep long-held tensions to improve many of the factors that support good health such as circulation, posture, sleep, digestion and mental wellbeing.
So rather than diagnosing or treating the symptoms of disease, I seek to understand and balance the underlying factors that are holding you back from your full state of health and wellbeing. I get to know my clients well, and with over 20 years of experience as a therapist, I have come to understand the common patterns behind stress and trauma-related conditions and taken note of what has helped them improve. By taking the time to really listen and have a conversation with you about your overall wellbeing, we build a big picture of who you are and what story your body is telling.
Common conditions
Clients often come to see me for support with stress management or quite chronic, debilitating and challenging conditions. This is because of my special focus on acupressure massage. They’ve often seen a conventional doctor, specialist, or physio and had some treatment but still haven’t found results. They may have also seen an acupuncturist, osteopath, chiropractor or naturopath but felt they needed something else or an effective treatment to complement their current holistic health plan. Our appointment — what to expect
When we meet, we’ll talk about why you’re here and what you’d like to achieve. Depending on what’s going on, we may discuss patterns in your sleep, digestion, and other lifestyle factors. I’ve had the chance to observe over time what has worked for my clients and this is what I want to share with you.
At the same time, while we talk I’ll be using my mastery of acupressure to search for tension and energy blocks, and using my experience to understand more about your health through observing your muscles, circulation, posture and breathing. Your body will tell me a lot without you having to verbalise it.
While I may not be able to fix it in an instant (I don’t prescribe painkillers, for example), our time spent together is about supporting tangible improvements that will start you on a path back to strength and wellbeing. To me this is the meaning of holistic health care. I’ll always give you my honest opinion, and I won’t sell you any products you don’t need.
Acupressure massage and a holistic health plan
Using this knowledge, I create a customised treatment plan in response to the cues — both verbal and non-verbal — that I observe during our massage therapy sessions.
We’ll focus on relaxing and resetting your body and mind, unravelling layers of trauma or stress, and starting to empower you to a new understanding of what’s going on in your body.
What story is your body trying to tell?
Our time together is a conversation, but I’ll be doing most of the listening.
