Abdominal Massage in Auckland
Supporting the core of wellbeing
Abdominal massage has been used for many centuries in asia even prior to the introduction of acupuncture. Abdominal massage has become an important part of my practice over the last 20 years. I gently lay my hands on the abdomen and I’m feeling with muscular tension in and around the abdomen and I’m feeling the blood flow, checking for circulation. I gently massage the abdomen working on the meridians relating to the organs. When I find tension, I use gentle acupressure technique or therapeutic massage techniques to release held muscles and improve circulation.
I also check in on your breathing focusing on the lower diaphragm as the breath helps to relax things.

Why do I find abdominal massage so helpful?
Throughout my 20 years of treating people as a massage therapist I found that the best results for stress or tension related conditions is to work through the abdomen (belly). I work on stress points and muscle tension in and around the belly.
The body accumulates a lot of stress and tension in the muscles in and around the abdomen and when it’s in a tense state it can’t do its job properly and it can affect the motility of the gut which can cause issues with the bowel as well. Muscular movement is very important for good gut health. If there is a buildup of tension and stress in the lower abdomen it can also affect the lower back and relate to lower back pain and imbalance in the pelvis/back.
Abdominal massage can produce good outcomes for the whole body. 1/3 of the blood of the body flows through the belly and therefore it is key to overall wellness. People generally lack awareness of the tension held in the belly and it relates to posture and pelvic alignment. It can be helpful to overall wellness to understand your gut better and the different feelings within the gut.
It is very useful for chronic fatigue and digestion issues and can be a good measure of emotional wellbeing also.
Clients tell me the benefits they receive include:
- Ease of breathing
- Openness in the chest and belly
- Relax through the belly
- Better digestion
- A feeling of lightness
- More energy
