Neck and Shoulder Pain
Neck and shoulder pain can kick in quite quickly when under stress. Shoulders and necks are very sensitive to stress and the tension and pain can make people hyperaware of the area which aggravates it further. Over time pain and tension causes weakness and reduced range of motion. Clients come seeking treatment for acute and chronic neck and shoulder pain. Acute pain can come from something happening that may result in a client not being able to turn their head or they’re experiencing burning pain in the upper back or scapula or difficulty lifting an arm. A common shoulder complaint is frozen shoulder which causes tingling and numbness in the arm, hands and fingers.
Clients may find their pain relates or is aggravated by stress or specific activities at work. They may have had steroid injections and or be using pain killers.
I initially check muscles in the neck, shoulder, chest and upper back and find any that are tense or spasmed or over-engaged putting strain on vertebrate and/or nerves. I speak with clients about their daily routine and movements and undertake a structural and postural analysis of the whole body and look at other stress factors contributing to muscle tension away from the neck and shoulders which means looking away from the area of pain and working through the meridan points to find the pain triggers.
Using acupressure and a combination of massage techniques, I gently to calm the body and nervous system and release tension and blockages. By calming the mind and body it frees up the area that then allows me to find the other points of tension that help provide deep and long-term release for the body. Lastly, I help the client to become more aware of patterns of posture and movements that are not supporting them.
